Have you always been able to tell what people are thinking?
Do you know what people are about to say or can you feel why someone is upset?
And I’d bet you always know how to fix things for everyone?
That probably makes you a really great friend, but as a kid? It probably felt like a heavy burden to bear.
That’s the kind of kid I was too. The one who took on the weight of the world. The one who people-pleased, who stayed quiet and who didn’t want to rock the boat.
I learned at a young age that the thing that made me special was my ability to be helpful, useful, and well behaved.
But trying to be perfect all the time started backfiring around the age of 3 when all the emotions I didn’t express on the outside turned into horrible, chronic pain on the inside. For the next 20 plus years, I stayed as the quiet overachiever who relied on everyone else’s opinions to decide how I felt about myself. I also lived with a litany of health issues: arthritis, migraines, anxiety, skin conditions and depression.
Here’s how it all went down:
A country town, home-schooled religious childhood with parents who were just trying to keep their own heads above water meant I spent a lot of time alone.
My best friends were my cat, my books, my music and the people I watched endlessly on TV.
At the age of 21, I moved to New York City (because small town life wasn’t “outside the box” enough), tackled the music industry, (because a normal job wouldn’t have impressed people enough), and crammed in every volunteer opportunity, networking event, concert or even fundraisers with the President of the United States.
I did whatever I could find to make myself stand out, because if I wasn’t important, then at least I could stand next to the people who were.
I wish I could tell you that formula works. It doesn’t.
Years of striving and pushing only left me tumbling down into a darkness I still don’t have the words for. I was at the bottom of myself, right where I had started.
But the beautiful reality? All that was left to do was put my hands on the ground, lift my body, and stand up.
Up was my only option once I knew the bottom. Standing up led me into a life of healing and joy.
Today, I help people get clear on what they want, how they want to feel and then how to get make those dreams their reality.
As the host of a successful podcast, speaker and coach I work with people just like you. They’re people pleasers, overachievers, worriers, do-gooders, activists and aspiring leaders.
I help clients figure out what is holding them back from pursuing the things that really, deeply matter to them by using a combination of holistic modalities, intuition and strategic tools.
The result: lasting changes.
I love inspiring quotes and self-help books too, but actually making changes is crucial to getting what you want out of life. We can’t just talk about a good life, we have to go out there and build it.
Having gone through the mess of “figuring it out” myself, my clients and I develop action steps to propel them further into the life they so deserve.
You showed up here.
Somehow you landed on this page.
You’re still reading and so I wonder about you and what you’re facing.
Maybe you feel stuck in a pit right now. Maybe you feel caught between who you are and who you want to be. Maybe you’re up late at night feeling swallowed by the anxiety and the voices whispering on repeat: You’re not enough. You’re not ready. You’ll never matter.
The voices are dead wrong. I can promise you that much. Silencing those voices will be an effort that will require your whole being. But you could start right now. The fight could begin right this second.
Welcome to an exhausting but beautiful fight. This life is yours. I’m with you. We are going to make it. Together, we are going to make it.
